Panthers Fall 1-3 to South Alabama, Diaz Scores First Goal of the Season

ATLANTA, -- Georgia State fell 1-3 to South Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the GSU Soccer Complex. Elena Diaz scored her first goal of the season in the 60th minute, with Aaliyah Faddoul providing the assist. Despite the Panthers' efforts, South Alabama secured the win with three goals to hand Georgia State its first conference loss.

How it Happened

South Alabama grabbed a 1-0 lead when Irene Campo scored in the 37th minute, assisted by Monique Gray and Amber Fortenberry.

The Jaguars tacked on another score on a goal from Laurie Ann Moise in the 48th minute, assisted by Gray and April Lantaigne.

Georgia State narrowed the gap to 2-1 on Elena Diaz's 60th-minute goal, her first of the season. Aaliyah Faddoul assisted the goal.

The Jaguars took a 3-1 lead with a 61st-minute goal from Mae Hunt, assisted by Juliana Lopes and Gray. The goal closed the scoring in the game.

Game Notes

  • Jaddah Foos collected seven saves for the Panthers out of 18 total Jaguars shots.
  • Georgia State registered three shots on goal.


Georgia State dropped to 1-6-4 overall and 0-1-2 in Sun Belt action after the defeat.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, Oct. 4, when they travel to face Appalachian State.
