ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State put together a dominant performance, defeating Old Dominion 97-75 on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the GSU Convocation Center. The Panthers shot an impressive 65.5% from the field and 53.3% from three-point range, overwhelming the Monarchs with their offensive efficiency. Cesare Edwards led the charge with a career-high 29 points and 11 rebounds, finishing 12-of-13 from the field. Toneari Lane was nearly perfect from deep, knocking down seven three-pointers on his way to 21 points.
Georgia State set the tone early, taking a 41-25 halftime lead before continuing their dominance in the second half. Zarique Nutter added 18 points off the bench, while Jelani Hamilton contributed 12 points. The Panthers also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 20 points off Old Dominion's mistakes. With the win, Georgia State improved its Sun Belt record to 7-7 as they continue their push toward postseason play.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 20-17 advantage, Georgia State went on an 11-0 run with 9:31 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Lane, to increase its lead to 31-17. The Panthers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 41-25 advantage. Georgia State capitalized on eight Old Dominion turnovers in the period, turning them into 13 points on the other end of the floor.
Georgia State started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 48-25 with 17:24 to go in the contest. The Monarchs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still cruised the rest of the way for the 97-75 win. Georgia State took care of business in the paint, recording 32 of its 56 points in the lane.
