Bailey’s Heroics Power Panthers to Thrilling Comeback Win

ATLANTA, GA --Carter Bailey crushed two home runs, including a walk-off two-run blast in the ninth inning, to lift Georgia State (5-0) to a thrilling 9-7 comeback win over UT Martin (2-3) on Saturday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Bailey, a sophomore shortstop, led the Panthers at the plate by going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. His first homer came in the eighth inning, a two-run shot that cut into UT Martin's lead, before his game-winning blast in the ninth sealed Georgia State's fifth straight victory.

Kaleb Freeman continued his strong start to the season, reaching base in four of his five of plate appearances with a double and three walks. Jae Williams also contributed, going 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and two runs scored.

After trailing 7-4 entering the bottom of the eighth, Georgia State mounted a comeback when Bailey launched his first home run of the day to bring the Panthers within one. In the ninth, William Maginnis led off with a double, and Colin Hynek followed with an RBI single to tie the game. Pinch-runner John Beverley advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, setting the stage for Bailey, who hammered the first pitch he saw over the wall in left center to secure the win.

Nicholas Holbrook (2-0) earned the victory in relief, tossing the final two innings while allowing just one earned run. Starter Dylan Matela struck out four over four innings, and Cole Roberts added three innings of relief with four strikeouts.

UT Martin took a 5-4 lead in the fifth with a four-run inning, capitalizing on back-to-back RBI singles before scoring twice on a sacrifice bunt and an error. The Skyhawks extended their lead in the eighth, but the Panthers' late-game heroics proved too much to overcome.

Georgia State looks to complete the weekend sweep on Sunday, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
