GAME 2 | Georgia State 9, Memphis 8
ATLANTA, Ga. --The Georgia State Panthers needed eight innings to get the job done, but secured the 9-8 extra-innings win, walking it off on a single off the bat of sophomore Bella Morton to claim victory over the Memphis Tigers Sunday.
Senior Emily Hodnett (1-3) got the win for Georgia State (5-12). The right-hander went 3.1 innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits, allowing seven walks and striking out two. Senior Kate Kastelic also pitched well, going 4.2 innings, surrendering three runs, two earned, on two hits, walking three and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Senior Chloe Middlebrooks put Georgia State on the board with a one-out solo home run off freshman Jericho Tate.
The Panthers kept the deficit at 2-1 before taking the lead in the second. The Georgia State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Middlebrooks, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Panthers.
Memphis narrowed Georgia State's lead to 6-5 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 7-5 in the fifth inning.
Memphis then rallied to take an 8-7 lead before Georgia State scored two runs in the bottom half of the eighth to grab the win, walking it off on an RBI single off the bat of Morton.
