CONWAY, SC --Jelani Hamilton scored 25 points, but the Georgia State men's basketball team fell to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 80-74 on the road Wednesday.
Hamilton's 25 point effort led the Panthers (13-17, 8-9). Nick McMullen helped out with 12 points and seven rebounds and Zarique Nutter chipped in with 14 points coming off the bench.
Georgia State out-rebounded Coastal Carolina 41-36 in Wednesday's game, paced by McMullen's seven boards. The Panthers also grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and scored 26 second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 27-18, Georgia State went on a 6-0 run with 5:49 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 27-24. The Panthers continued to close the gap, cutting the Coastal Carolina lead to 36-35 by the end of the first half.
Coastal Carolina kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 53-49 advantage before Georgia State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Hamilton's three, to seize a 57-53 lead with 9:22 to go in the contest. Coastal Carolina re-asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 27-17 the rest of the way to hand Georgia State the 80-74 loss. Georgia State made the most of seven offensive rebounds to tack on 10 second chance points out of 39 total in the period.
