COLUMBIA –
Colin Hynek hit his seventh home run of the season as Georgia State fell 7-1 to South Carolina at Founders Park on Wednesday night.
A junior catcher, Hynek's home run came in the second inning and gave Georgia State (12-6) an early 1-0 lead. His home run is his fourth in the last games. The Rockmart, Ga. native homered twice on Saturday and once on Sunday in GSU's series with Western Carolina.
GSU held their 1-0 lead until the bottom of the third when South Carolina scored six runs on five hits with three walks and one error to take the lead for good.
Six Panther pitchers took the mound on a designated staff day for GSU.
Carlos Carmona,
Ryan Lamar and
Nick Holbrook combined to finish the game with one scoreless frame each.
Dylan Matela got the start and opened the game with two scoreless innings before surrendering the go-ahead runs in the third.
Georgia State opens Sun Belt play against South Alabama on Friday, March 14 at the GSU Baseball Complex. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
