CARROLLTON, Ga. – Georgia State jumped out to an early lead, but West Georgia rallied with four multi-run innings to edge the Panthers 11-12 in a back-and-forth battle on Tuesday night at Cole Field.
The Panthers (15-7) stormed ahead with four runs in the first and three more in the second, highlighted by home runs from Jesse Donohoe, Andon Lewis, and Michael Maginnis. Donohoe finished 2-for-4 with two HRs, while Maginnis went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs.
West Georgia (10-9) clawed back into the game with a four-run fourth inning, a two-run homer in the fifth, and a four-run sixth, eventually taking the lead on a two-run seventh. The Wolves took advantage of three Georgia State errors and timely hitting, including a grand slam by Tyler Presnell.
The Panthers trailed 12-10 entering the ninth but pushed one run across on a sacrifice fly by Cole Griffith. However, West Georgia closer Brendan Parks (S, 3) secured the final out with the tying run on base to seal the win.
Ryan Lamar (0-1) took the loss for Georgia State, allowing two unearned runs over the final two innings. Jake Hembree started the game, striking out four over four innings before the bullpen combined to allow eight runs over the final five frames.
