HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Georgia State Panthers (21-13, 8-4 SBC) completed the sweep over the James Madison Dukes (10-22, 4-8 SBC) with an 8-5 win on April 6, 2025, at Eagle Field at VMP. Ross Norman (4-4) pitched six solid innings for the win, while Jake Hembree earned the save with three shutout frames.
The Panthers jumped on the Dukes early in the top of the first. Michael Maginnis opened the game with a double, then moved to third on a balk. After Kaleb Freeman and Colin Hynek both walked, William Maginnis's single drove in two runs to give GSU a 2-0 lead. James Madison answered back in the bottom of the frame as Wyatt Peifer's home run, followed by RBI singles from Anderson and Cannizzaro, produced three runs and put the Dukes ahead 3-2 after the first inning.
In the top of the second, Georgia State regained momentum when John Beverley tripled to right center. A groundout by Michael Maginnis brought Beverley home, and a home run from Freeman gave the Panthers a 4-3 lead.
James Madison took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a double down the left field line and a single through the right side. The momentum shifted in the top of the seventh. Colin Hynek singled through the left with one out, and William Maginnis walked to put runners on first and second. A wild pitch then allowed runners to advance. Pinch-hitter Jae Williams stepped in with two outs and tripled down the right-field line, delivering two key RBIs by driving in both base runners. The hit pushed GSU ahead 6-5, a lead they would not relinquish.
Insurance runs came in the top of the ninth when Jesse Donohoe crushed a no-doubt home run. His home run to right field not only extended the lead to 8-5 but also capped an 11-hit game for the Panthers. The Dukes were unable to respond in their final inning.
On the mound, Ross Norman allowed five runs on nine hits over six innings, and Jake Hembree, with a couple of strikeouts, secured the save over three innings. Todd Mozoki (2-4) took the loss for James Madison after struggling to stem the Panthers' surge.
With the win, Georgia State improved to 21-13 overall and 8-4 in Sun Belt play.
