GREENVILLE, S.C. – Georgia State came up just short on the road Sunday evening, falling 1-2 to Furman at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium despite outshooting the Paladins 16-8 and controlling much of the second half.

The Paladins opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Dylan Daniels finished off a pass from Callah Dando to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Furman doubled its advantage in the 59th minute as Jaleah Simmons scored on a low finish off a feed from Maddie Massie.

The Panthers quickly responded. In the 66th minute, junior forward Sunniyah Tucker netted her second goal in as many matches to cut the deficit in half. The goal capped off a strong individual performance from Tucker, who fired three shots on target and was a constant threat in the attacking third.

Georgia State pressed for the equalizer in the closing stages, generating six shots in the final 25 minutes, but Furman goalkeeper Reese DeJong made several key saves to preserve the Paladins' victory. DeJong finished with six stops as GSU forced her into action repeatedly, including late attempts from Cadence Setzer and Aaliyah Faddoul.

Faddoul paced the Panthers with five shots, three of them on frame, while Tucker and Junior Hina Suzuki combined for six more attempts. Overall, Georgia State held a 16-8 edge in total shots and a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Defensively, goalkeeper Ariana Anderson recorded two saves while playing the full 90 minutes. The back line of Therese Brink, Mackenzie Fitzgerald, and Lily Sawyer played all 90 minutes as well, limiting Furman to just four shots on goal.

With the loss, Georgia State moves to 1-1 on the season after Thursday's 7-0 win over Truett-McConnell.

The Panthers return home for their next contest, hosting West Georgia on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.
