ATLANTA – The Georgia State volleyball team (6-9, 0-3 SBC) fell to the JMU Dukes 3-0 Thursday night at GSU Sports Arena.
Akira Burt led the Panthers with seven kills, while Mina Olgar added six and Julie Arias five. Sigrun Jonsdottir and Dariana Valencia each had eight digs to lead the defense, and Annelore Engels dished out 14 assists.
How It Happened
SET 1 | JMU took the opener 25-17 after Georgia State grabbed the first point. The set was tied five times before the Dukes took the lead for good on the third point and pulled away. The Panthers trailed by as many as nine and hit .032 in the frame.
SET 2 | Georgia State battled to the end, but fell 25-23 as JMU took a 2-0 match lead. The set featured 10 ties and three lead changes, with the Panthers building their biggest lead at 13-9. After a 23-23 tie, the Dukes scored the final two points to take the set. Burt led the Panthers with five kills, while Georgia State hit .250.
SET 3 | JMU completed the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set. The Panthers dropped the opening point and trailed by as many as 11.
