Fourth-Quarter Rally Forces Overtime in Narrow Loss to App State

BOONE, N.C. — The Georgia State women's basketball team (9-17, 4-10) rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime before falling 73-67 on the road to the Appalachian State Mountaineers (11-14, 4-10 SBC) on Saturday afternoon.

Georgia State placed two players in double figures, led by Grace Lanier's game-high 23 points to go along with four assists and two steals. Cheyenne Holloman followed with 22 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while Ari Dyson chipped in three points, seven rebounds, and a team-high three steals.

The Panthers were active on the offensive glass, pulling down 10 offensive rebounds that led to seven second-chance points. Lanier accounted for two of those boards.

Defensively, Georgia State disrupted the Mountaineers all afternoon, forcing 21 turnovers while committing just 13 of its own. Those takeaways turned into 28 points on the other end, with Dyson leading the effort.

How It Happened
After falling behind 15-5 early, Georgia State used a 7-0 run late in the first quarte to trim the deficit to 15-12. App State responded to carry a 19-14 lead into the second quarter.

The Panthers continued to chip away in the second period, cutting the margin to 26-24 by halftime.

Georgia State trailed 46-32 entering the fourth quarter, but mounted a furious comeback. An 8-0 run capped by a Holloman three gave the Panthers a 51-50 lead with 4:13 remaining.The Mountianeers answered back to force overtime tied at 60-60. Georgia State capitalized on 10 fourth-quarter turnovers, scoring 15 points off takeaways in the frame.

The Mountaineers took control in overtime, pulling away to secure the 73-67 win.
