Panthers Drop Overtime Contest to Coastal Carolina

ATLANTA—The Georgia State women's basketball team came up short in an 92-84 overtime setback to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Tuesday night inside the GSU Convocation Center. Cheyenne Holloman drilled a clutch game-tying shot with 41 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, but Coastal Carolina pulled away in the extra period.

The Panthers had four players score in double figures, led by Crystal Henderson, who had 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Kaleigh Addie tacked on 19 points and two steals from the bench and Grace Lanier chipped in as well with 14 points.

Henderson pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Georgia State, grabbing 19 boards and turning them into 17 second chance points.

Georgia State forced 21 Coastal Carolina turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Tuesday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 26 points on the other end of the floor. Cheyenne Holloman's five steals led the way for Georgia State.

How It Happened
Georgia State opened the board with a 7-0 run, taking an early lead with 6:52 left in the first quarter. The Panthers struggled to hold on, but still entered the quarter break with an 18-14 advantage. Georgia State capitalized on eight Coastal Carolina turnovers in the period, turning them into 12 points on the other end of the floor.

The Panthers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 34-32.

Coastal Carolina continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 50-46 advantage before Georgia State went on a 6-0 run to grab a 52-50 lead with 54 seconds to go in the third. The Chanticleers then rallied to tie it at 52-52, heading into the fourth quarter. Georgia State excelled in the paint, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the paint.

Despite taking the lead one time in the fourth, Georgia State was unable to pull out the victory in regulation, as the two teams entered overtime tied at 77-77 apiece. Georgia State pulled down six offensive rebounds to score four second chance points out of 25 total in the period. 

Coastal Carolina took control in overtime to take the 92-84 victory.
