BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Georgia State fell 4-2 on the road against UAB Wednesday night at PNC Field.
Senior forward Aaliyah Faddoul and freshman forward Brielle Delgado scored their first goals of the season as the Panthers dropped the first match of the season.
UAB took an early 1-0 lead when Morgan Goehring scored in the 19th minute, assisted by Avery Berryman. The Blazers then increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Emily Cole in the 29th minute, assisted by Vita Naihin.
The Panthers found the back of the net in the 42nd minute and Faddoul closed the gap to 2-1 with a penalty kick. Georgia State struck again the next minute and knotted things up at 2-2 with a 43rd-minute goal from Brielle Delgado on a cross from Faddoul.
A strong defensive performance at the start of the second half kept the game tied but UAB broke through and took a 3-2 lead on Lailah Stewart's goal in the 72nd minute, assisted by Leah Parsons. The Blazers' advantage expanded to 4-2 thanks to a 79th-minute goal from Berryman.
The Panthers return home to Atlanta to host Truett-McConnell for Senior Day on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.
