ACADEMICS

Majoring in sociology.

2015-16

Played in 25 of 29 games as freshman, starting 21 of them...Her 602 minutes played were third-most minutes on team.

Led the team in field goals made (99) and led the team in steals per game (1.8) with 45 (two shy of Newby who played four more games).

Was second on the team in scoring (8.8 points per game), second in shots taken (213, 8.5 per game), second in rebounding (4.7, 117 total) and second in assists (34, 1.4)...Was also second in most turnovers committed (71, 2.8).

Was third on the team in field goal percentage (46.5 on 99 of 213) and third in blocked shots (9).

In Sun Belt, was ninth in steals per game (1.8), 11th in field goal percentage (46.5), 14th in defensive rebounds (3.6) and 20th in total rebounds (4.7).

Produced 10 games in double-figure scoring and 11 games with five or more rebounds in a game.

Top scoring game was a 21-point night on 10-of-15 shooting in win at Georgia Southern (Feb. 22), including game-winning basket with one second left...Hit 7 of 10 shots and 14 points in that second half in Statesboro, Ga. in playing all 20 minutes of that half.

Just missed double-double with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while making 5 assists vs. Troy (Jan. 7)...Hit 9 of 20 shots in that game and had 6 offensive rebounds.

Was also on verge of double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds vs. Morehead State (Nov. 21), while making 5 steals.

Had 16 points and 7 rebounds at Tennessee Tech in second game at GSU (Nov. 19), with 3 steals.

In hometown area, scored 15 points and had 7 rebounds in GSU win over Stetson (Dec. 21), an eventual 20-win team.

Had 8 points and 8 rebounds in win over Bethune-Cookman (Dec. 20) at Stetson.

Helped team open Sun Belt play with a win at UT Arlington (Dec. 30) by scoring 13 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.

Had 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting at Troy (Feb. 13) and 13 points in the next game (Feb. 28) with 6-of-12 shooting vs. Little Rock, to go with 7 rebounds.

HIGH SCHOOL

Runner-up as Florida Miss Basketball in the largest 8A classification...All-state first team and All-Central Florida...Nominated for McDonald's All-American...Orlando East side Metro Player of the Year.

Starred three years at Colonial High School in Orlando after a freshman season at Saint Cloud HIgh School, just south of Orlando.

Four-year high school statistics for 111 games included 1,809 points, 1,029 rebounds, 442 steals, 301 assists and 122 blocks. The forward stepped outside and made 52 3-point baskets in her career.

Had ability to get to the free throw line, shooting 376 in career (making 259, 69%)...Shot 51 percent from the field in career on 2-point shots, making 697 of 1,364 for the Grenadiers of Colonial.

Senior season of 2014-15 saw her average 22.3 points per game and 11.2 rebounds, with 3.5 steals and 2.7 assists per game...Colonial High School went 25-5 and ranked No. 2 in Florida...Shot 53 percent from the field (266 of 498) and 77 percent from the free throw line (123 of 159).

Her 337 rebounds as senior included 155 on the offensive end of the court...Stout on defense with 105 steals and 23 blocked shots as senior...Was runner-up to Miss Basketball to 6-foot-4 Miami center and Baylor signee Beatrice Mompremier.

Had ability to step up in big games, scoring 29 points and getting 22 rebounds in 8A-Region 5 tournament win over rival that had beaten Colonial earlier.

High School coach Cindy Richardson said of Astaja: "The things she can do as a basketball player are just amazing. She is not a vocal player, but when she gets out on the court, she plays hard and everyone follows her."

The Orlando Sentinel said of her: "A predator from midrange and the heart of the Grenadiers. Tyghter jumps high, attacks the hoop for rebounds and inspires her teammates."

Named to FACA All-Star Game as a senior, helped lead team to 116-99 win with a double-figure performance...Played AAU basketball with Central Florida Elite team and Florida Flight.

Signed with Georgia State on Nov. 14, 2014...Had been recruited early by schools like Belmont, South Alabama and MTSU, then as senior schools like Clemson and Ole Miss stepped into the recruiting process.
