2024-25 SBC Defensive Player of the Year
2024-25: 2025 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year... Led the Sun Belt and finished second in the nation for blocks per-game (3.33)... Also finished third in the SBC for total steals (72)... Broke the program record for single-season blocks (110) and single-game blocks (11)... Second on the team in rebounds and steals, and third in assists... Had seven double-digit games, including a season-high 17-point game against Campbell (Nov. 28)... Matched her career-high four assists at App State (Feb. 1), which she previously set in 2018... Notched a career-high 11 blocks in the Panthers double-overtime against South Alabama (Feb. 13), which broke the program for single-game blocks.
2023-24 (MARSHALL): Participated on the 2024 Sun Belt Conference champion team that won the regular season and went 26-7 (17-1 Sun Belt) on the season... Appeared in 22 games with 17 starts...Tallied a team-high 44 blocks while averaging 8.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game...Finished with a double-double at Wright State on Nov. 27, recording season-highs with 16 points and 11 rebounds
2022-23 (MARSHALL): One of three players to start all 31 games for Marshall in 2022-23 ... Finished with 63 blocks, which was third all-time in program history (Most in the 21st century) ... Averaged 8.6 PPG, for a total of 265 for the season ... Scored a season-high 20 points against USF on Dec. 18 ... Finished with a double-double against JMU on Jan. 5, scoring 11 points and grabbing 15 boards.
2021-22 (MARSHALL): Retained redshirt sophomore standing due to 2020-21 COVID season ... Missed entire 2021-22 season due to injury.
2020-21 (MARSHALL): One of just three players to play in all 19 games for Marshall ... Averaged two blocked shots per game, Conference USA's second-highest mark ... Rejected a season-high seven shots against Louisiana Tech on January 1 ... Played a season-high 25 minutes against Louisiana Tech on January 2 ... Grabbed a season-high eight rebounds against FIU on January 23.

PRIOR TO MARSHALL: Played freshman year at Ole Miss … Appeared in 22 games, starting in six … Averaged 1.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game … Earned first career start vs. Temple … Also started vs. North Florida, the first three conference games of the season, and in the SEC Tournament game vs. Florida … Matched her career-high four points and set a career-high six rebounds in the SEC Tournament vs. Florida … Scored her first career points vs. Savannah State.

Averaged 18.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, 7.0 blocks, 3.8 steals and 1.4 assists per game her senior season ... Averaged a cumulative 12.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.3 blocks, 2.8 steals and 1.1 assists per game in her four-year career ... Ended her career with 1,158 points, 1,002 rebounds and 503 blocks.
PERSONAL: Born May 7, 2000 in York, Penn. to father Charles Matthews and mother Shayla Smith and step-dad Jaimie Alvarado … Has six younger siblings Marquez Matthews, Aniya Matthews, Praise Matthews, Cha’nijah Matthews, Jaiale Alvarado and Jaila Alvarado … played on the Hoop Dreams AAU team… Graduated from Marshall with a Bachelor of science in health professions and a Masters of Arts in leadership studies. Plans to obtain a Master of Science in exercise science.
