Redshirt junior Ana Paula Ferreira had 10 digs, eight kills, six total blocks, and four service aces as the Georgia State volleyball team fell to James Madison 3-0 (30-26, 30-27, 30-21) Friday night in Harrisonburg, Va.
Game one saw the Panthers fall behind 29-20, only to storm back by staving off six game point chances for the Dukes. A pair of blocks by junior Amy Lusk and sophomore Leah Tenney, a pair of Ferreira service aces, and a kill by Tenney coupled with a JMU attack error helped State go on a 6-0 run. But the Panthers needed a 9-0 run, as the Dukes would get game point on a kill after the second of two JMU two time outs during the run
The second game was tied after the first 36 points before JMU took a 19-18 lead and State asked for time. State would ultimately trail 27-21 before trying to claw back into the frame by narrowing the gap to two at 29-27 after a block by Tenney and freshman Jocelyn Waldern. However, a kill by the Dukes following a time out once again enabled the home team to take the second game 30-27.
Game three belonged to the home team from the start as James Madison never trailed in the game en route to the 30-21 victory.
The Panthers (3-7, 1-2 CAA) slip back into a tie with James Madison in the CAA standings. State will try to right the ship and end the losing streak Saturday afternoon when they face George Mason in Fairfax, Va.
