The Panthers Slip Up at Troy

GSU would fall 3-0 to conference foe in Friday night's road contest

TROY, AL- Georgia State women's volleyball fell to Troy 3-0 on the road Friday night. The loss drops GSU to 3-6, while the Trojans are now 7-2 in Sun Belt action. 
 
Juniors Leah Wilcox and Meisheia Griffin led the way for the Georgia State offense, recording seven and six kills respectively. 
 Lauren Bandera would lead the match in digs with 15. While at the net Cierra Sillmon posted four of Georgia State's nine blocks in the contest. 
 
Troy would jump to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame, but an attack error by the Trojans would put the Panthers on the board.  With the game tied at 18-18 two Georgia State errors would swing the momentum in Troy's favor. Georgia State would post five blocks to slow the Troy offense, but the Trojans found ways to close points on several crucial long rallies. Troy would take the set 25-21.  
 
In the second the Panthers would return the favor and go on an opening 3-0 scoring run, but Troy would find holes deep in Georgia State territory to put themselves in the lead. The teams would go back and forth tying the match at 9-9. Georgia State would struggle at the net for the remainder of the set. The Trojans would capitalize on GSU's errors and would cruise to a 25-18 victory. 
 
Troy's outside hitters would work around and off the GSU blocking scheme in the final set as the Trojans jumped to a quick 15-6 lead. Griffin would notch two kills in the middle of the court to try to close the gap, but the Trojans would continue to make key adjustments en route to taking the frame 25-17. 
 
Tomorrow, Georgia State will look to give South Alabama their first at home loss of the season. Action is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans can follow along via live stats and streaming.
