Bats Come to Life in Win Over Bryant

GSU scored 11 runs on 14 hits to beat Bryant 11-4 Friday.

MACON, Ga. -- Georgia State started off the weekend with a bang Friday in an 11-4 win over Bryant at the Black and Orange Challenge hosted by Mercer.

The Panthers used a seven-run fourth inning to break a 4-4 tie with the Bulldogs. Emily Buck threw four scoreless innings to earn the win in the circle, her second of the season.

Caitlin Ray hit her second home run of the year with a solo shot in the first inning. The Panthers added three more in the bottom of the second with a two-run double by Sydney Stavro and a solo homer by freshman Sofia Tunon, her first collegiate blast.

A Bryant grand slam tied the game in the third before the Panthers exploded for seven runs in the fourth.

Baylee Sexton started the inning with a one-out single. She then stole second before coming home on Stavro's second double of the day. Freshman Daisy Hess then singled home Stavro before Tunon laced a double to left field to plate another run.

The inning continued with back-to-back RBI-singles by Bailee Richardson and Olivia Davis. Kalynn Hicks capped off the inning with a pinch hit, two-run single up the middle to make it 11-4.

Georgia State continues the Black and Orange Challenge with a pair of games Saturday against Akron and Mercer.
