Richardson Goes Deep at Auburn

GSU fell 2-1 to the Tigers Wednesday evening.

AUBURN, Ala. - Georgia State was narrowly defeated at Auburn Wednesday night, losing 2-1 to the Tigers at Jane B. Moore Field.

A pair of freshmen made things interesting for the Panthers in their bid to knock off a second Power-5 team in two weeks.

Last weekend, GSU defeated Iowa State 1-0 at home. Wednesday the Panthers broke a scoreless tie to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth off the bat of freshman Bailee Richardson.

Auburn's Lexie Handley had a no-hitter going through 4.1 innings when Richardson sent the first pitch of the at-bat over the wall in right-center. The Locust Grove native's opposite-field big fly was the second of her career.

Another freshman, Sophie Mooney, turned in a strong performance in the circle, holding the Tigers to just two runs on four hits over 6.0 innings.

Auburn jumped ahead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Panthers return to Sun Belt play this weekend at South Alabama. GSU and USA will play a three-game series beginning Friday.
