Panthers Drop Doubleheader to Eagles

ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell 11-7 in eight innings in Game 1 and 9-4 in Game 2 to Georgia Southern in Friday's doubleheader at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Down by 7-5 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Daisy Hess sent a two-strike pitch back up the middle, scoring a pair to send Game 1 to extra innings.

Georgia Southern had built a 5-1 lead after two innings, but GSU used a three-run fourth to pull closer. Georgia Southern scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings to set up the Panthers' rally in the seventh.

The Eagles pushed four runs across in the top of the eighth to take Game 1.

Bailee Richardson and Alyssa Brumelow each went 3-for-4 at the plate. Hess and Emily Brown each drove in a pair of runs.

Game 2 saw the Eagles jump out early with a seven-run frame in the second inning. GSU clawed closer with runs in the second and third, and scored two more in the seventh, but fell 9-4.

Brown went 3-for-5 and Hess and Brumelow each tallied two hits in Game 2. Julia Allen threw the final five innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

After the games, Georgia State celebrated it four seniors, Brumelow, Baylee Sexton, Emily Brown and Skylar Mosel.

GSU will compete at next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Troy, Ala.
