Moore's Career-High 28 Not Enough vs. Marshall

ATLANTA -- Collin Moore scored a career-high 28 points for Georgia State, but Marshall got 37 points from Sun Belt Conference scoring leader Taevion Kinsey as the Thundering Herd won 88-77 Saturday afternoon at the GSU Convocation Center.

Moore, who missed the first 18 games of the season due to injury, had the highest scoring output for any Panther this season. The North Little Rock, Ark., sophomore hit 12 of 18 shots from the field, including 3-for-6 from 3-point range. He also grabbed a career-high five steals, along with four rebounds and two assists.

Dwon Odom had 14 points, a career-high nine rebounds, five assists and two steals while playing all 40 minutes for the Panthers. Brenden Tucker also scored 14 with three steals, and Ja'Heim Hudson had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Panthers (10-16, 3-11 Sun Belt) had a solid shooting day, hitting 49.2 percent from the field, but Marshall (21-6, 10-4) made 11 3-pointers and shot 50 percent overall. Sixty-three of the Herd's 88 points came from Kinsey, who went 12-fofr-19 from the field and 12-for-14 at the free throw line, and Andrew Taylor, who scored 26, including 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.

But Georgia State stayed within striking distance. After falling behind 54-44 early in the second half, the Panthers scored 10-straight points over a three-minute span to tie the game at 54-all with 13 minutes left. GSU grabbed five steals during the run on which Moore scored six of the 10 points.

Marshall responded with a 15-2 spurt to take their biggest lead at 69-56 with nine minutes to play, but the Panthers continued to fight back, pulling within 80-74 on a bucket by Dwon Odom with 2:46 left.

"Marshall is an extremely talented team," head coach Jonas Hayes said. "Coach [Dan] D'Antoni does a great job, and they have a couple of guys who went berserk on us. We didn't do enough to contain those two guys and came up short, but I like the intestinal fortitude of our guys showed to come back. We still have to work on the decisions we make in the gut of the game, and how those decisions can turn the tide.

"I thought our guys showed a lot of grit. We stood up for ourselves and started to throw some punches and fight back."

Georgia State plays is back on the road next week, beginning Thursday at Coastal Carolina. The Panthers' final home game at the GSU Convocation Center is Wednesday, Feb. 22 vs. Appalachian State at 7 p.m. For tickets, visit GeorgiaStateSports.com or call 404-413-4020 during business hours.
