Panthers Split Day Two of the Panther Invitational

ATLANTA - Georgia State (5-10, 0-0) split games on day two of the Panther Invitational. The Panthers defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts (3-5, 0-0) in a first game and dropped one to the Northern Iowa Panthers (4-6, 0-0).

Third baseman, Bailee Richardson, led the team in batting on the day going three for four, blasted a homerun and batting in two runs.

Game 1: GSU 5 – WCU 4

All of the Panthers' runs were scored in the first inning earning five runs off four hits and one error. The Panthers batted through the lineup once. Four singles, two stolen bases and a wild pitched helped move the runs into home.

The Panthers would remain scoreless the rest of the game.

Western Carolina tried to comeback, blasting two homeruns in the third and fourth innings but it wasn't enough to overcome Georgia State.

In the top of the sixth the Catamounts came close to tying up the game with a SAC fly but the Panthers defense was determined to get the outs with a double play. Jackie Gonzalez threw to Chloe Nadler for the tag at second after the caught fly ball for the final out of the game.

Sophomore, Hallie Adams (1-3), pitched a complete game in which she recorded eight strikeouts, a new career high. She earned the win allowing no walks, eight hits and four runs.

Game 2: UNI 7 – GSU 2

Northern Iowa came in swinging in the second inning and blasted two homeruns to get on the board. They would go on to hit two more homeruns in the third to go up 6-0.

Georgia State struggled in the box nearly giving Northern Iowa a no hitter. Despite back to back homeruns from Nadler and Richardson the Panthers couldn't make it back. They would fall 7-2 to Northern Iowa.

Kate Kastelic (0-1) was awarded the loss for the Panthers, her first of the season.

The final day of the Panther Invitational is tomorrow with your Panthers in action at 12:30 p.m.
