Goodwin Homers Twice in Split with Mercer

ATLANTA – Georgia State (11-17, 0-3 Sun Belt) split against Mercer in a midweek double header. The Panthers had a hot hitting day with 28 hits, three home runs, four doubles and one triple. They also stole a total of eight stolen bases, six in one game.

Emily Brown is on a five game hit streak, she was 6 for 9 at the plate today while stealing two bases, adding three runs and one rbi.

Game 1: Mercer 6, GSU 5 – 10 innings

The Panthers hit three home runs in the 10-inning loss to the Bears in game one of the double header.

Chloe Nadler started off the game with a solo homerun to get the Panthers on the board. Jaycee Goodwin then went two for four at the plate hitting two home runs. The firsts of her career, she slammed a solo and a three-run bomb to put the Panthers back in the lead.

The Bears had a home run of their own to put them in the lead, then would go on to tie the game in the top of the seventh to send it into extra innings.

Two extra innings went by still tied up until Mercer grabbed an rbi single that would seal the deal for the Bears.

Elle Doolittle started in the circle and pitched nine innings. She struck out nine batters, a career high, and let up five runs before being relieved by Hallie Adams (2-7) who was given the loss.

Game 2: GSU 9, Mercer 2

The Panthers bats were on fire and wheels were turning on the bases in the victory over Mercer.

Brown got it started early on making it to third on a wild throw and making it home on a wild pitch in the first. Four singles drove in three runs in the second inning extending the Panthers lead, 4-0.

Two RBI doubles by Freshman Maia Mumpfield, a triple by Deady and another RBI double by Nadler would seal the deal for the Panthers as they drove away with the win.

Mercer got off a 2 rbi homerun in the third but that was all they could manage as the Panthers defense held it down.

Emily Hodnett (4-7) pitched a complete game for the win. She let up only one 2 rbi homer, five hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Panthers will be back in conference play this Friday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex as they take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
