Panthers Split Season Series with Tech

ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell 23-8 at Georgia Tech as the two Atlanta schools split their annual season series. The Panthers won the first meeting 12-11 in 14 innings last month at Coolray Field.

Freshmen Taylor Shultz and Brennan Hudson homered for Georgia State (18-19).

Shultz, the rookie shortstop, hit a 3-run homer down the left field line in the fifth inning that pulled the Panthers within 5-3. That is the second homer of the season for Shultz, who also had a double on the night.

Making his first start, Hudson, from Cumming and South Forsyth High School, hit his first career home run with a solo shot to lead off the sixth inning, cutting the GSU deficit to 7-4.

Hudson is the 17th different Panther to hit a home run this season. Georgia State has now hit 73 homers on the season, the fifth-highest season total in proram history and nine behind the school record of 82.

Georgia Tech (21-16) broke the game open with five runs in the sixth, five in the seventh and sixth in the eighth.

Georgia State continues a busy week by hosting Mercer Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex before traveling to South Alabama for a weekend series.
