Ryerson, Hynek Homers Back Watson's Pitching in 15-5 Win at South Alabama

MOBILE, ALA. -- Colin Hynek and Max Ryerson homered and Ryan Watson earned his 17th career victory as Georgia State won 15-5 in Friday's series opener at South Alabama.

The Panthers defeated South Alabama (19-19, 7-9 Sun Belt) for the fourth straight time and won in Mobile for the first time.

Watson (4-1) pitched six innings and allowed just one run on three hits with five strikeouts. He is now in sole possession of fourth place in GSU history in career victories.

Ryerson reached base in all six plate appearances with his 11th homer of the season, an RBI-single, three walks and a hit by pitch. He drove in three runs on the night.

Hynek led off the sixth inning with his eighth bomb of the season, homering for the second straight game, and the GSU catcher also had an RBI-single and a run-scoring double for three RBI.

The blasts by Ryerson and Hynek give Georgia State 78 home runs, the second-highest season total in program history. The GSU record is 82, set in 2010.

Cameron Jones was 4-for-5 with two RBI, and Luke Boynton also drove in two runs.

Georgia State (20-19, 8-8 Sun Belt) jumped in front with three runs in the second and two more in the third and then broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning.

Ryerson started the scoring with an RBI-single in the second. The Panthers added two more that inning on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Luke Boynton.

GSU added two in the third on a sac fly by Matt Ruiz and Hynek's RBI-double, and Ryerson led off the fourth with his solo blast for a 5-1 lead.

The Panthers sent 11 to the plate in their 6-run fifth, highlighted by Jones' 2-run single and RBI singles by Boynton and Dylan Strickland.

The series continues with a 3 p.m. ET game Saturday on ESPN+.
