Panthers Drop 3-1 Match to Appalachian State

ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State volleyball team lost to the Appalachian State Mountaineers in four sets (17-25, 25-21, 15-25, 21-25) Friday at home at GSU Sports Arena.

The loss dropped Georgia State's record to 14-9 overall and 5-6 in Sun Belt play.

The Panthers were led by a double-double from Keionna MacKey, who registered 14 kills and 12 digs on the day. Kayla Broom also added 10 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Livy Kowalkowski chipped in for with 13 digs to go with four blocks from Myllena Torquetti.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Panthers fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-17. Georgia State trailed by as many as eight points as Appalachian State never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up zero times before the Mountaineers took control.

SET 2 | Georgia State rallied from a first-set loss to take the second set 25-21, tying the match at 1-1. The Panthers grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that had just one lead change before the Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Appalachian State took a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Panthers in set three. The Panthers fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-15.

SET 4 | Georgia State then lost the fourth set 25-21 to finish off the match. The Panthers couldn't persevere past a ferocious Appalachian State rally, falling after leading by seven points at 14-7 earlier in the set.

The Panthers are back at home tomorrow to take on Appalachian State at 2:00 p.m.
