NEW ORLEANS, La. -- New Orleans pushed across the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Georgia State 4-2 in Game 2 of their season-opening series Saturday at Maestri Field, evening the series at one game apiece.
The series finale is Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
In a 2-2 game, UNO scored two in the eighth inning, aided by three walks and a wild pitch.
Freshman right-hander Ross Norman started on the mound for the Panthers, the first GSU freshman pitcher to start on the Opening Weekend since Garrett Ford in 2013. Norman pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
Sophomore Davis Chastain (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Georgia State (1-1). The right-hander went two innings, giving up just one run on one hit, allowing two walks and striking out four.Â
Senior Henry Koehler led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Michael Maginnis drove in the Panthers' other run, and JoJo Jackson and Will Mize had two hits each.
