NEW ORLEANS -- The Georgia State baseball team fell Sunday at New Orleans by a final score of 8-4 as the Privateers won the series, two games to one.
Junior transfer Tyler Roche (0-1) got the ball to start for Georgia State (1-2) and struck out six in 3.2 innings. He allowed four runs, including three earned, on four hits.
UNO (2-1) starter Caleb Seroski threw five scoreless innings to earn the victory, allowing just two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Freshman Sam Schofield was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts in his collegiate debut.
At the plate, the Panthers were led by junior JoJo Jackson, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a triple, a walk and two RBI. Senior Ryan Dyal was 2-for-5 with a double.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNO scored eight runs on nine hits, taking advantage of six walks, two hit batters, four wild pitches and two errors by the Panthers.
Leading 1-0, New Orleans scored three runs in the fourth, and then added one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Georgia State finally got on the board in the seventh on an RBI-groundout by Michael Maginnis. In the eighth, the Panthers managed to string together three hits, including JoJo Jackson's 2-run triple to the right field corner. Will Patota brought home the fourth run with a groundout.
