Brennan Hudson hit the go-ahead home run in the sixth inning and Georgia State relievers
Trent Reddick and
Ross Norman finished the game with 4-2/3 scoreless innings to send the Panthers to a 5-3 win over Old Dominion Friday at the GSU Baseball Complex, evening the series and keeping GSU alive for a spot in next week's Sun Belt Conference Championship.
Georgia State (25-30, 13-16) and Old Dominion (28-24, 14-15) conclude the regular season Saturday at 11 a.m.
With the game tied at 3-all in the sixth inning, Hudson, the sophomore first baseman, crushed a 2-run homer over the scoreboard in right field to give the Panthers a 5-3 lead. Hudson's homer is his 12th of the season and No. 103 for the Panthers, second-most in program history.
Reddick (1-1), the sophomore right-hander who entered the game in the fifth, pitched 2.2 hitless, scoreless innings with four strikeouts and just one walk to earn the victory. Norman, a freshman righty, struck out five over the final two innings while allowing no runs on two hits to pick up his third save.
Center fielder
Matt Ruiz drove in two runs for GSU with a first-inning sacrifice fly and an RBI-triple off the wall in left center in the fourth inning.
Leadoff hitter and shortstop
Maximus Martin went 2-for-3 on the day. He led off the game with an infield single and scored on Ruix's sac fly, and in the fifth inning, he doubled to the wall in right center to bring home
Colin Hynek.Â
Brady Jones made his first career start for the Panthers and pitched 4.1 innings, a career-long outing, allowing three runs on six hits.Â
