Baseball Clinches Spot in Sun Belt Conference Tourney

ATLANTA -- Georgia State earned a spot in the Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship and will open play against Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.

Georgia State (25-31, 13-17 Sun Belt) dropped its regular-season finale to Old Dominion, 20-6 (7) at the GSU Baseball Complex, but the Panthers earned the No. 10 seed in the Sun Belt tournament, breaking a tie in the standings with Texas State by virtue of their series win over No. 2 seed Southern Miss

The Panthers and seventh-seeded Chanticleers meet in a single-elimination game, with the winner advancing into the double-elimination round that opens Wednesday. These two teams played a series last weekend at Conway in which they combined for 73 runs and 22 home runs. Coastal Carolina won two of three.

In Saturday's game, senior third baseman Will Mize hit his team-leading 17th home run of the season, the sixth-highest season-total in program history. He tied for seventh in GSU annals with 34 career homers.

Mize, the Snellville, Ga., native (Brookwood High School) is the Panthers' top player, hitting .350 with 60 RBI.
