Georgia State Falls Short at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, SC --The Georgia State women's basketball team fell short in an 83-68 loss to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on the road Thursday.

The Panthers (7-10, 1-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Mya Williams, who had 15 points and two steals. Kaleigh Addie tacked on 12 points and Mikyla Tolivert helped out with 12 points and three steals.

The Georgia State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday's game, forcing 22 Coastal Carolina turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the other end of the floor. Crystal Henderson's five steals led the way individually for the Panthers.


How It Happened

Georgia State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 14-12.

Coastal Carolina kept adding to that lead, building a 24-19 advantage before Georgia State went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 24. Coastal Carolina then took control, putting the Panthers at a 40-29 disadvantage heading into halftime.

Coastal Carolina continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-31 advantage before Georgia State went on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Henderson, to trim its deficit to 43-40 with 7:42 to go in the third. Coastal Carolina countered and stretched its lead to 66-52 heading into the fourth. Georgia State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 23 points in the paint.

Georgia State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 83-68. Georgia State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 16 points in the paint.
