Men's, Women's Basketball Hosts Rivalry Double Header

ATLANTA-- Georgia State men's and women's basketball are set to host the rivalry double-header against Georgia Southern on Wednesday.

The women's basketball team will tip off the rivalry games at 5:30 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center, followed by the men's basketball game at 8:30 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Georgia State and Georgia Southern are meeting for the 57th time in program history. The Panthers are 26-31 in the series after defeating the Eagles 74-49 at home on Feb. 3, 2024.  

> Last season, the Panthers swept the Eagles 2-0 after defeating Georgia Southern at home and on the road. The Panthers defeated the Eagles 74-66 on the road before completing the sweep at home.


> Led by Mikyla Tolivert, The Panthers lead the conference in overall free throw percentage (74.1).

> The Panthers are also third in the Sun Belt in blocks per-game, averaging 3.9 pg. Mahogany Matthews, who leads the Panthers in blocks, also leads the conference and ranks top 30 in the nation for total blocks (25th/30) and blocks per-game (26th/ 2.14). 

> Led by Mya Williams, the Panthers rank fourth in the conference in three-pointers per game (7.2). 

> The Panthers also rank top five in the Sun Belt for assist/turnover ratio (8th/ 0.80), steals pg (3rd/ 10.5), three-point percentage (7th/ 29.8) and turnovers forced per-game (4th/ 19.71). 

> The Panthers finished the 2023-24 season ranking third in the Sun Belt in blocks per game (3.2) and bench points (23.7), which finished 38 in the nation. The Panthers also finished fourth in the conference in assists per game (13.6) and steals (9.6). 
 

> Senior Mikyla Tolivert stands 8th overall in the program for free throws made with 280. She is four free-throws away from the No. 7 spot in the record book, which is currently held by assistant coach Patechia Hartman


MEN'S BASKETBALL: Georgia State and Georgia Southern are meeting for the 69th time in program history. The Panthers are 28-40 in the series after falling to 70-86 to the Eagles on Jan. 20, 2024. 
 

> Led by Nick McMullen, who leads the conference and ranks 15th nationally in rebounds per-game, the Panthers' 38.67 rebounds per-game ranks third in the Sun Belt.

> Nick McMullen is top two in the Sun Belt in every rebounding category, including total rebounds (154,leads the SBC and ranks ninth nationally), rebounds per-game (10.3, leads the SBC and ranks 15th nationally), defensive rebounds per-game (6.87, second in SBC and 19th nationally) and offensive rebounds (3.40, second in SBC and 22nd nationally).

After hosting the rivalry double-header, both Panthers' squads are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 11 for another conference double-header. The Women's team tips off against Troy at 1:00 p.m., followed by a men's contest against Coastal Carolina at 4:00 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center.
