Georgia State comes up short in 2-4 loss to Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – Georgia State battled Georgia Tech in a tight contest. However, a two-run seventh inning proved to be the difference as the Panthers fell 2-4 on Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Panthers (12-5) were held to just three hits but capitalized on opportunities to scratch across runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Kaleb Freeman drove in Georgia State's first run with a groundout in the fifth, while Carter Bailey added an RBI groundout in the sixth to tie the game at 2-2.

Georgia Tech (14-3) struck first in the opening frame with a two-run home run from Drew Burress. The Yellow Jackets broke the 2-2 deadlock in the seventh when Kent Schmidt delivered an RBI single before Alex Hernandez added a sacrifice fly to give Georgia Tech a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Jacob Crews (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs in 2.2 innings of relief. Starter Jake Hembree kept Georgia State within striking distance, working four innings and allowing two runs with three strikeouts. Tysen Benford pitched a scoreless eighth to keep the Panthers within two.
