Panthers Drop Road Contest at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va — The Georgia State women's basketball team fell 71-56 on the road Thursday night to the Marshall Thundering Herd, despite a combined 43-point effort from Grace Lanier, Cheyenne Holloman, and Eghosa Obasuyi.

Lanier paced the Panthers with 16 points along with four assists and two steals. Holloman followed with 15 points and a game-high four steals, while Obasuyi added 12 points and two steals.

Georgia State dominated the offensive glass with 15 offensive rebounds, turning those extra possessions into seven second-chance points. Defensively, the Panthers were disruptive throughout the night, forcing 21 Marshall turnovers while committing just 13 of their own, converting those takeaways into 18 points.

How It Happened
Georgia State fell behind early, trailing 23-10 after the first quarter, and entered halftime down 40-21.

Marshall extended its lead to 20 points midway through the third, but the Panthers responded with a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 50-36. Georgia State continued to chip away, closing the third quarter within 54-41 after capitalizing on five Marshall turnovers for nine points.

The Panthers were unable to get closer in the final frame, ultimately falling by a 71-56 margin. Georgia State did its best work in the paint down the stretch, scoring 14 of its 15 fourth-quarter points inside.
