Hamilton Scores 20 Points in Georgia State's 81-73 Loss to Old Dominion

ATLANTA --Jelani Hamilton collected 20 points, but the Georgia State men's basketball team fell to the Old Dominion Monarchs 81-73 at home Friday.

The Panthers  had four players score in double figures, led by Hamilton, who had 20 points and four steals. Micah Tucker tacked on 19 points and Malachi Brown helped out with 11 points and two steals.

Georgia State collected 35 rebounds in Friday's game compared to Old Dominion's 34, led by Joah Chappelle's 11 boards. The Panthers also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 12 rebounds into 14 second chance points.

The Georgia State defense caused its share of mistakes in Friday's game, forcing 13 Old Dominion turnovers while committing six. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Hamilton's four steals led the way individually for the Panthers.


How It Happened

After falling behind 15-14, Georgia State went on a 7-0 run with 13:02 left in the first half to take a 21-15 lead. The Panthers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 42-36 advantage. Georgia State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 22 of its 42 points close to the basket.

Old Dominion then erased the Georgia State lead in the game's final quarter for an 81-73 comeback victory. Georgia State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 31 total points.
