Obasuyi Leads Panthers to 107-49 Win over Sewanee

ATLANTA, GA -- Sophomore guard Eghosa Obasuyi put up 20 points to lead the Panthers to a 107-49 win against the Tigers at home Sunday.

" Eghosa has been working hard, and we have always known what kind of shooter she is," head coach Gene Hill said. "But, I think she is getting more comfortable and confident on the floor, so im really excited for her to have that kind of game today."

After coming of the bench, Obssuyi put up 20 points and one assist in the Panthers' win. The sophomore guard set a career-high seven FG made after shooting 70-percent from the field. She also shot 71.4 percent from the three-point line and put up a career-high five three-pointers.

The Panthers (6-4) had seven players score in double figures, led by Eghosa Obasuyi, who had 20 points. Kaleigh Addie tacked on 16 points and seven rebounds and Cheyenne Holloman helped out with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists from the bench.

Clara Rosini scored her fist double-double as a Panther, putting up 13 points and 13 rebounds. Her 13 rebounds entered the record book as the eighth-most rebounds in a game.

The Georgia State offense was very productive from beyond the arc, making 13 threes on 32 attempts. Obasuyi was the most prolific shooter for the Panthers, draining five treys in the contest.

The Georgia State defense caused its share of mistakes in Sunday's game, forcing 22 Sewanee turnovers while committing eight. Those takeaways turned into 27 points on the other end of the floor. Crystal Henderson's four steals led the way individually for the Panthers.

"I'm really proud of how our players came out with some energy today," Hill said.  "We have talked all year about playing up to their (the players') level and allowing things to happen from there, and i feel like we came out today and really did that."

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 5-1 advantage, Georgia State went on a 15-0 run with 6:01 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Holloman, to increase its lead to 20-1. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 25-11 advantage. Georgia State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 25 points.

Georgia State built that first quarter lead to 38-22 before going on a 10-0 run starting at the 4:07 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 48-22. The Tigers cut into that lead, but the Panthers still enjoyed a 52-27 advantage heading into halftime. Georgia State dominated in the paint, scoring 18 of its 27 points close to the basket.

Georgia State wasted no time building on its lead, going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Mya Williams, to expand its lead further to 62-27 with 8:39 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Panthers added 14 points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 87-38 edge. Georgia State took advantage of seven Sewanee turnovers in the quarter, scoring 15 points off of takeaways.

Georgia State kept its lead intact before going on a 15-0 run, finished off by Clara Rosini's layup, to grow the lead to 106-45 with 2:15 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still cruised the rest of the way for the 107-49 win.
