ATLANTA, GA - Crystal Henderson, Kaleigh Addie and Mikyla Tolivert combined to score 42 of Georgia State's 55 total points, but the Panthers fell to the JMU Dukes 62-55 at home Wednesday.
Henderson led the Panthers (14-13, 7-8) with 18 points, four assists and three steals. Addie tacked on 13 points and two steals and Tolivert helped out with 11 points.
Georgia State did a great job disrupting JMU shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Mahogany Matthews led the way individually for the Panthers with four rejections.
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-3, Georgia State went on a 7-0 run with 6:26 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Mya Williams, to take a 10-6 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 15-14.
JMU kept adding to that lead, building a 25-14 advantage before Georgia State went on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a three from Clara Rosini, to narrow its deficit to 25-23. JMU responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Panthers trailing 31-26 heading into halftime.
JMU continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 48-38 advantage before Georgia State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Williams, to trim its deficit to 48-43 with eight seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Georgia State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.
Georgia State came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Tolivert's layup, to seize a 49-48 lead with 5:14 to go in the contest. JMU re-asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 14-6 the rest of the way to hand Georgia State the 62-55 loss. Georgia State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 12 points.
