Georgia State Scores 32 points Off of Turnovers in 55-43 Win Against Eastern Michigan

ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State women's basketball team scored 32 points off of turnovers on the way to a 55-43 win against the Eastern Michigan Eagles at home Saturday.

The Panthers (12-12) had two players score in double figures, led by Mikyla Tolivert, who had 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Crystal Henderson added 13 points and four steals and Mahogany Matthews added five points, four steals and five blocks.

The Georgia State defense held Eastern Michigan shooters to only 33.3 percent from the field. The Eagles did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only seven offensive rebounds and scored four second chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 3-0, Georgia State went on an 8-0 run with 6:43 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Kaleigh Addie, to take an 8-3 lead. The Panthers then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with an 18-10 advantage. Georgia State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 18 points.

The Panthers maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 31-28 edge. Georgia State forced eight Eastern Michigan turnovers in the period and turned them into eight points.

Eastern Michigan then took a 36-34 lead following intermission before Georgia State went on a 9-0 run to grab a 43-36 lead with 1:30 to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Georgia State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 12 total points.

Georgia State kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Tolivert's layup, to grow the lead to 55-43 with 25 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Georgia State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.
